Sydney - 12 April, 2010: Samsung Electronics announced today the availability of Australia¡¯s first ever Full HD 3D TVs in Australia, the LED and Plasma Series 7. The LED TVs will be available in-store from 19 April 2010 and the Plasma in May. The Samsung 2010 TV lineup represents a revolutionary new dimension in TV, which will introduce Australians to the stunning 3D TV picture experience plus a next generation of interactive television capabilities.
¡°The new Samsung 3D TVs create a new dimension literally for image quality and image realism,¡± said Mark Leathan, Head of Marketing, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Australia. ¡°Samsung is committed to developing technology and products that exceed today¡¯s expectations of innovation. We are excited to be the first company to provide 3D TV to Australia.¡±
Samsung¡¯s 3D TV products are powered by unique technologies that deliver incredible depth and perfect clarity. In particular, the LED TVs boast unsurpassed picture quality by using Samsung-developed technology to merge the advantages of LED edge-lighting with the control of local dimming technology. This technology ensures unsurpassed images with vibrant colours, deep blacks and better contrast ratios. Samsung 3D TVs also support 2D to 3D conversion, so you can watch your favourite everyday content in a 3D environment.
To immerse viewers fully in the 3D TV experience, Samsung is offering three different models of 3D glasses, one battery type model plus a rechargeable model available in two sizes. At launch two sets of glasses are included with every TV purchase and additional sets can be purchased from $129 RRP. Plus, to celebrate the launch of its 3D TV lineup, Samsung has partnered with DreamWorks Animation to include one 3D Blu-ray Disc of DreamWorks Animation¡¯s, Monsters vs. Aliens, for a limited time with every purchase.
2010 is undoubtedly going to go down in history as a milestone in the development of television, but it is not just limited to 3D TV. In addition to its global content partnerships with National Geographic and Technicolour, Samsung Australia is also pleased to announce an in principle agreement to bring the Telstra BigPond¢ç TV platform to Samsung TVs in the very near future.
According to Chris Taylor, Director of Telstra Media, ¡°As a country we are at the tipping point of a wave of IPTV entertainment and BigPond is positioning itself at the crest. Being a leading consumer brand, Samsung is an obvious choice as a partner for our BigPond TV Platform and we look forward to announcing more details about how viewers will be able to access our range of entertainment in conjunction with Samsung in the very near future.¡±
With built-in Ethernet connection and wireless-ready capabilities, Samsung¡¯s 2010 3D TV line-up is ready to help consumers connect to the internet. Consumers are provided with Internet@TV an expanded, easy to navigate selection of content and applications from leading services. Apps available in Australia include YouTube, Twitter, Skype, Accuweather, Getty Images, Picasa, History App, Sudoku and Texas Hold¡¯em Poker. In addition, Samsung¡¯s All Share feature allows consumers to view content on their Samsung TV from a PC, camera or mobile phone wirelessly through their network.
Samsung¡¯s 2010 LED and Plasma TV range feature narrower bezels and brushed metal frames in silver and black – pushing the limits beyond the familiar black plastic bezels of many HDTVs. Samsung has developed a ground breaking four-legged quad stand for its LED models that makes the TV look more like furniture than technology and a new brushed titanium crystal design scheme with chrome edging to better match modern living rooms.
The total 2010 3D TV product range includes the LED Series 7, 8 and 9, as well as the Series 7 LCD and Plasma Series 7 plus 3D Blu-ray player. Prices for the TVs range from a RRP of $2,499-$4,799 with the Blu-ray player retailing at $599 RRP. All products are compatible with multiple 3D standards including half and Full HD resolution and use the Blu-ray Disc Association ratified Blu-ray 3D standard.
